Chris Ellis
Former Demon bass player Chris Ellis was kind enough to send us a song.
In his own words:
"The inspiration for the song came from Aboriginals and white men being enemies in Oz, but fighting together in the two world wars. In Cherbourg (Queensland!), you've got the dormitories where the 'stolen' generation were kept away from their parents, but a war memorial on the other side of the road, which contains the names of both blacks and whites.. It's a pretty good tale, and one that hasn't been told before as far as I'm aware. Recorded on one mike, no re-mix possible.
The chorus mentions Cherbourg being a French port, and the famous car chases in the film, French Connection... I'm sure you don't need it explaining. Anyway, if anyone's interested in what a 52-year-old ex-Demon is doing these days, I have an album ready to record..."
