Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply.

I know exactly where you're coming from, and judging from your band recollections I sympathise entirely - I wonder if Dave had such problems? If he did - then he kept them to himself.

Possibly not, our gigs were a much more amateurish set up I suspect, where there was no sound mixer/engineer as such to reign in spiralling guitar volume etc. However, when we did have an engineer at a desk, he still could never get his head around the idea that we didn't use 'tinkley keys' at the end of phrases and that we wanted a bigger, more orchestrated effect. Even then though I battled with a wall of sound as a vocalist - I just think that if you are a 'heavy band' at that level, the mix is often geared to a 'Brian Johnson' type vocal. Dave wouldn't necessarily struggle I think because he has that kind of vocal.
Talking of our band, we were supposed to support you at some point in 1991, but the gig never happened - honestly!!

I'd really like to hear some of your work - symphonic rock is right up my street...do you have anything you could upload? I'd sincerely like to hear it, especially as you appear to have been on a similar journey as myself.

The problem is, these were recorded 20 years ago in a 24 track studio, and I only have second generation copies of the mixdown on tape cassette. I did one time 'sample' these tracks (just using a digital recorder) and have them in mp3 format somewhere, but they don't sound too good and don't do the tracks justice. I may blast them over to you as opposed to uploading the on the World Wide Web to save any embarrassment. Incidentally, I have JUST finished writing and recording a track 'who we are' which I may blast over to you some time - I cheated a bit on this and used a couple of pre-recorded loops/samples here and there for a change and for experimentation.

Now then...that sample.

In my later Demon-days, I owned a small toy-sampling keyboard made I think, by Casio. This had a built-in microphone and you could sample "on the fly".

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS, BUT I HAD ONE OF THOSE!! It had a little square type mic on a curly cord attached the keyboard right? I used it a song or two once.

To be perfectly honest Giles, I would do practically anything to get the keyboards heard over the guitars whilst playing live; and the sample "YOUR ALL GONNA DIE!" - was one of those stunts.

So I wasn't imagining it after too much drink!!?? It was excellent, I loved it. It is a perfectly valid, logical and reasonable statement, sod the 'thought police' and sod the PC brigade. Look forward to your releases.

Take care, I will be in touch demondude.

Giles
