Yes, I think Unbroken is quite a bit better than Better The Devil. It is a much better production for one, but the songs are stronger. That's my opinion. I would however, although never wishing to put things 'in boxes', put them both in the same category.

The opener is OK but cheesy lyrics, Standing on the Edge is a great rocker and the last track Change is rather nice (Joe Cocker anyone?) but badly produced and the piano sounds too 'mechanic' (is it sequenced??). The other tracks are pretty hideous and instantly forgettable.

I don't know if I can really say 'BTDYK' is a bad album, songs like the title track, 'Dead of the Night', Staning On the Edge' 'Warriors', and 'Change' are really good. I just need to give the album more proper listens to properly let the rest of the songs sink in. But 'Unbroken' has grown on me a lot quicker then that album.

Hey Karl, don't take it as a personal attack, it's just an opinion. From what I heard of the album, well done on being part of the album, and of the band's legacy. Smile

Firstly, there is nothing negative about an individual declaring that they do not enjoy or value a piece of music - it's a subjective view - an opinion, so you are wrong there. Secondly, you don't know that no one here wants my opinion (so you are wrong there again) - and if it is a case of people not liking it, I don't care. Finally, do you think that the fact you "contributed" to the record renders it great? Or is that just your selfish and inflated ego??

I suggest that, in future, before you post, you check your logic and reason and also your ability to express yourself without resorting to name calling as an under-developed child would.

PS People's name have an uppercase letter.

I didn't like "I still believe", so I was a bit reluctant to listen to the album - yet, when I saw it in the local record store, I couldn't resist..

... and I'm glad I couldn't!

As Giles said, the production is a lot better than on "BTDYK" (so, does that make me the first person ever to agree with Giles on anything concerning post-Watts Demon? Laughing ), and actually, I think it is better than on "Spaced-Out Monkey" as well.

I don't rate it as highly as the first nine studio albums, but I'd even say it is my favourite of the post-"Hold On To The Dream" albums. It just sounds like a good, positive rock and roll record, with cool hooklines, a great singer (Dave really does sound rejuvenated, doesn't he?) and a really confident sounding band - unlike on "BTDYK", which sounded a bit, well, unfinished to me in places.

Disclaimer: I don't have a particular dislike for "BTDYK", I just think that it doesn't quite capture the brilliance of the band - or the songs - in concert back then. Razz

Good to see you back O Lord and to read your comments on UNBROKEN perhaps it will grow on you. I think perhaps it's time to say something about BTDYK, a great album but we did it at home not a proper studio as we have with all other DEMON albums and so it suffered from the overall bigger and warmer sound, they say a bad workman blames his tools in the case of Studios recording equipment this does APPLY, plus there were difficulties on our new DIY journey, one example was RAY WALMSLEY trying to get a decent LEVEL whilst mixing and the neighbour knocks on the wall this isn't really conducive to mixing a good album, so you are already saying why did you do it then, well at the time I was under pressure to get the album out by some promotion people in GERMANY so I messed up basically my fault and I shouldn't have bowed to pressure, in hindsight it's easy to make decisions, can?t be right all the time. Hopefully we will try to RE-MIX BTDYK sometime in the future. You can already hear the difference on the 2 RE-MIXES of STANDING ON THE EDGE and BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW we did for TIME HAS COME THE BEST OF.

After trying to decipher that 'sentence':

a) I'm not upper class, whatever that means!??
b) Just what have I put that is objectionable to you? I get called a CUNT, I respond, and you have a go at me for it - who (or what - should I say?) the hell do you think you really are? You are a very aggressive individual!

Also, have you ever heard of grammar, punctuation and a dictionary?

Which is the most objectionable here:

Oi "cunt" giles I was on that album "better the devil you know" So fuck you asshole

OR

I should have named the category I referred to as belonging to the 'lacking ideas and originality' section.

What is it with you people here? Can't somebody have an opinion that doesn't massage your egos???? Very strange. Maybe it's because I made the mistake of showing Steve Watts the respect and support he deserves when he posts on here - I'm funny like that.

I will say this and mean it from the heart of my bottom Very Happy : I thought Better the Devil was a load of old rubbish and not fit to be in the Demon collection. My opinion does not make me a cunt because you have a different one (or kid yourself you have).

How sad it is to see the site I was proud of when I was involved in the band, to be a platform to use bad language and slag off anything just for the hell of it. There is a good album on sale here, looks good, sounds great. Better the Devil gave some good tracks, but maybe didn't work as an album, and that is the case with any band who still wants to record albums, and entertain anyone who is prepared to listen. A lot of people have performed in Demon and and there will be always a few bad vibes, but I think dignity should be the key word. Everyone who has performed with the band should be proud, and look back on their experiences with great pleasure.
Best wishes for the New Year
Andy Dale

I love you too. Andy, although i cannot say anything about emmiting arses (i've not been a band member sadly). But what i can say as a fan and a musician is that you better should not drag each other's opinion down to the gutter. Okay, Carl, you have recorded this special record with Demon: great respect. I've also did this with my bands. So i know what it means. So i also know you and the guys gave their very best: respect as well!.
But if you are asking for an opinion please respect the reply as well. It is just a single opinion by a message board member and does not represent the whole world. I think you can live with that both, Giles and Carl (just watch the upper case letter in your names).
Whatever we are discussing about this record it won't become better or worse. So, just take it like it is: like it or not. It does not make any difference to the relationship to the band. It is history and we cannot turn back time. And if we are comming to the point this one was briiliant it would not make become Dave, Mike, you and the other guys millionaires. I just can repeat: it is just as single opinion
(please appologize my baaaad english, i am german and we have lost a very important game today. so i am terribly annoyed about this and about the posts to this topic)
Just keep on unbroken. Me and my friends will be there!

What you mean is it's nice to hear somebody that you agree with OR is massaging you ego more to the point - BIG BIG difference. This 'reasoning' is behind all the UNreasonable problems you have with me here.

PS It's "sense" Wink

There's a big difference between a 'typo' and glaring spelling, grammar and punctuation errors!!

Sorry, your contribution to BTDYN isn't something we should all be in awe of, and therefore we are cunts! We apologise for that.

Personally I see BTDYK as great album,Karl you have a lot to be proud of matey I wish I had your talent that's for sure, yes there are problems with the mix which btw the reasons for have been explained by mike. We have to realise Demon do not have the huge resources that many other bands have which limits what they can do in many ways,I personally have great respect for all members of the Demon camp who put a lot of effort into giving us fans the best music and live performances they can with what they have,a lot of time is spent doing hard work behind the scenes that we as fans don't get to see by Mike,Dave and others within the Demon camp to promote Demon as band and secure gigs and tours.
